VALPARAISO

Leaf pickup set to begin

Valparaiso will pick up residents’ leaves from Oct. 15 through Nov. 30 this year, with collection happening in neighborhoods on the same day as trash collection.

“We aim to get through the entire city each week,” Public Works Director Matt Evans said, although city crews may also work Saturdays during the heaviest part of the autumn.

Leaves for collection should be raked or carted to the right of way — not in the street — and should be free of sticks or other debris and should not be in plastic bags. Non-plastic, bio-degradable bags are allowed.

Leaves needing collection before or after the leaf collection dates should be bagged.

Residents can get more information at www.valpo.us/pw.
