Suicide suspected at park visitor center

A man was found dead in an apparent suicide Thursday afternoon in the parking lot of the former visitor center at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, the park service said.
Around 12:45 p.m., two hikers were returning to their car in the lot, located at U.S. 12 and Kemil Road, when they heard a “pop” sound. They saw the man in his car and called police. Officers from the National Park Service, Porter County and Beverly Shores responded to the scene. Police said the man died of a single self-inflicted gunshot wound.
