Teens charged with home burglary
Two men who allegedly burglarized a man’s home Oct. 21, damaging it and a custom motorcycle with what looked like baseball bats, face up to 20 years in prison at April trials.
Daniel Lee Scarpinato, 19, of Portage and Keith Ryan Madritsch, 18, of Lake Station are each charged with Class B felony burglary and Class D felony aiding in criminal mischief, and Scarpinato is also charged with two misdemeanors, resisting law enforcement and minor consuming alcohol.
Scarpinato was apparently mad over an incident that happened with the homeowner weeks before, and according to a third man who acted as lookout and hasn’t been charged, Scarpinato and Madritsch planned to jump him when he came home.
When the man didn’t return home after 4 a.m., Scarpinato and Madritsch stole a television, computer monitor, bass guitar and other items that police later found in a shed where Madritsch lived.
Madritsch had his bail bond reduced to $7,000 Friday, but Scarpinato is held without bail because he’s already on probation.
