State Rep. Shelli VanDenburgh was leading the polls Tuesday night to retain her seat in District 19, winning 56 percent of the vote.
Republican challenger Ron Johnson took in 44 percent, according to preliminary vote tallies.
The vote would mean that VanDenburgh will serve her third full term in the office after being appointed to the seat in 2007.
Neither VanDenburgh nor Johnson could be reached for comment.
VanDenburgh had campaigned on working to create more jobs by supporting several Democratic initiatives and to use tax surplus money to help pay for county infrastructure projects that would create jobs.
Johnson said he decided to run because he didn’t feel VanDenburgh represented his interests. He said that he would work to reduce taxes and business regulations.
