Marshall, Kroeger victorious in Duneland race

The Duneland School Board race saw two candidates winning with lopsided victories Tuesday .
Four candidates vied for the School Board at-large seat. School Board veteran John R. Marshall ran away with more than half of the vote; his nearest competitors, William Barkow and Dane Lafata, each captured about 20 percent of the vote and newcomer Daniel Vondrasek Sr. garnered less than 10 percent.
Marshall previously served on the School Board but was defeated in the last election to long-time political pro — and now fellow School Board member — Ralph Ayres. Marshall sees a need to fix school finances by seeking changes in the state funding formula.
“I’m pretty happy about the outcome, it’s a lot better than last time,” he said.
The race for the School Board seat representing Jackson Township pitted incumbent Nick Jurasevich against newcomer Kristin Kroeger. Kroeger walked away with 60 percent of the vote.
An elated Kroeger said she is eager to get to work and wants to put together a 100-day plan to chart the School Board’s course.
“First and foremost, we need better communications with the community, (and) get really serious about projecting the right image.”
