Man sought in Portage homicide turns himself into police

GARY — A man facing murder and solicitation of murder charges in Portage turned himself into the Gary Police Department on Wednesday night.
Dontaye D. Singletary, 20, was wanted in the death of 72-year-old Carl Griffith Sr., who was shot outside his Portage home on Nov. 1.
Singletary turned himself into police around 6 p.m., and was handed over to Portage police soon after, according to Gary police spokeswoman Cpl. Gabrielle King.
Singletary was being held at Porter County Jail without bond. He, along with Sheaurice Major, 42, face murder and solicitation of murder charges. Major was arrested Friday night and also was being held at the Porter County Jail without bond.
Griffith worked at Affordable Towing of Gary, which Major co-owns with her husband, Ronnie Major, who served 10 months in prison and was released to Lake County Community Corrections in February. Ronnie Major could have his probation revoked at a Thursday hearing. Affordable impounds vehicles for the Gary Police Department.
Griffith was killed around 8:05 p.m. while getting his mail outside his house on Locust Street.
