Home burglar took safe, three TVs
A burglar reportedly took three television sets, a safe and a cell phone between 3 a.m. and 9 p.m. Thursday from a home in the 1600 block of Carolina Avenue. Police said the home’s rear door had been forced open
Unknown when jewelry was stolen
A Center Township resident reported on Thursday that jewelry worth $14,650 was stolen from her house in the 200 block of Skyline Drive, west of Valparaiso. The 48-year-old woman told police the theft may have occurred as early as October, and nothing else was missing or had been disturbed. The missing jewelry consisted of a 10-karat gold necklace worth $11,000, a $3,500 watch and a $150 medical ID bracelet.
Drunken driver causes crash
Between the time police were informed of a reckless driver, at about 4:40 p.m. Thursday, and when an officer arrived a few minutes later, the suspect vehicle rear-ended an SUV on westbound U.S. 30, at the intersection with Shorewood Drive. A witness told police Tina Lien, 50, of Valparaiso, had been swerving all across and off the roadway, and the crash happened as she exited the grassy median. Lien was arrested for misdemeanor drunken driving.
Home entered in daytime burglary
A mobile home was entered and the owner’s wallet was reported stolen between 10:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thursday in the 3500 block of east Evans Avenue, in Washington Township. The owner told police she is sure the door was locked when she left, but it was unlocked and ajar when she returned home.
Vehicle vandalized during theft
An unknown person smashed the window of a vehicle to steal a laptop computer overnight Wednesday, in the 700 block of Juniper Road, police said.
