Arrest unrelated to truck on fire
Police were unable to determine how a truck caught fire at about 11:55 p.m. Thursday, but they arrested its owner, Michael Hughes, 22, for invasion of privacy, a misdemeanor. A neighbor reported the fire that consumed the gold 2001 Dodge pickup, which was parked on the grass in the backyard of a home in the 200 block of South Indiana 2, at Porter Crossroads. Hughes lives there with a 39-year-old woman and three children, police said, even though there is a protective order designed to keep him from having contact with any of them.
5,000 pounds scrap metal taken
An estimated 5,000 pounds of scrap metal was reported stolen between 7 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. Friday from behind Fabricated Metals Corp., at 4991 E. U.S. 20 in Pine Township. The metal, worth about $750, was stored in an unlocked bin labeled “no trespassing,” police said.
Burglar went under wall, took tools
A burglar pried up and slipped under the sheet metal wall of a storage shed between Dec. 8 and Thursday, tampered with the alarm and got away with 700 feet of electrical cable, tools and other items. The loss at the shed, in the 200 block of East County Road 1400N, in Westchester Township,is estimated at 900.
