Multiple thefts in Porter Township
Backyard sheds, a garage and vehicles were broken into overnight Monday in a neighborhood south of Lake Eliza.
The biggest loss was from an attached garage in the 100 block of Wenatchee Place. The family was at home during the theft but did not hear anything suspicious, and police noted the thief may have entered a vehicle in the driveway to use the garage door opener. A muzzle-loader rifle, a shotgun and two fly fishing rods were stolen, for a loss of $2,125.
The same night, an unknown person damaged the locks on two sheds, in the 600 block of Carpathian Drive and the 100 block of Wenatchee Place, but did not take anything.
A purse was taken from one vehicle and cash was stolen from two others in the 600 block of Ozark Drive, the 600 block of Carpathian Drive and the 100 block of Springwood Drive. The passenger side window was broken out of one vehicle, and the others showed no sign of forced entry, police said.
Unlocked Saturn reported stolen
A gray 2000 Saturn was reported stolen between 1:10 and 5:50 p.m. Tuesday from in front of a home in the 400 block of West U.S. 6, between South Haven and Portage. The four-door car is worth an estimated $1,800 and personal belongings inside have an estimated value of $955. The car was unlocked but the owner still has the keys, police said.
Someone tampered with mail in boxes
On Tuesday, a mail carrier reported someone tampered with letters and Christmas cards in home mailboxes along Crockett and Truman avenues and Sturdy Road. Police believe the incidents happened between 4 p.m. Monday and 2 p.m. Tuesday.
