VALPARAISO — Union Township School Corp. schools will operate on lockdown for two days, after hearing a rumor that a student might plan an attack on the student body of Chesterton High School during a pep session on Friday.
Superintendent John Hunter released a letter to parents Wednesday saying they received information from the Porter County Sheriff’s Department about a rumor of an attack on the school by students. The rumor also alleges that the unknown student has associates who would conduct a similar attack at Portage High School and Wheeler High School.
Hunter said “authorities have not been able to substantiate this threat and have found nothing to make it credible.” Still, Hunter notes, all schools will be locked down Thursday and Friday.
“We are taking additional steps to increase the safety of our schools to help ensure the safety of our students,” Hunter said in the letter.
