Five people from the Chicago area were arrested Dec. 21 after attempting to run a phony credit card scam at the Portage Wal-Mart with $5,624 of merchandise in five carts.
Shante D. Morgan, 22, of Calumet Park, and Enoch Hallman Jr., 32, of Chicago, were each charged with Class C felony conspiracy to commit forgery, Class D felony conspiracy to commit fraud and Class D felony attempted theft.
Natahsa T. Wynn, 25, of Calumet Park; Raymond R. Ross, 19, of Chicago; and Kyle K. Hickobottom, 26, of Chicago, were each charged with Class D felony attempted forgery, Class D felony attempted fraud and Class D felony attempted theft.
Store security observed the three men shopping together with individual carts and then meeting up with the women, all loading their carts with electronics, including three 42-inch televisions.
The men left the women and carts, and the women tried to scatter when their faked credit cards didn’t work.
Hickobottom is in Porter County Jail on $7,500 bail bond, and the others are being held on $5,000 bond.
