Driver lit up fake weed during stop
Elliott Raye, 23, of South Haven, was arrested for felony possession of heroin and, pending the results of a drug analysis, he also is expected to be charged for misdemeanor possession of synthetic marijuana. When police stopped Raye for driving left of center, at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of Indiana 130, he reportedly lit up a synthetic marijuana cigarette.
Legal meds, alcohol led to man’s arrest
Brian Oliver, 38, of unincorporated Porter County, was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated with a combination of alcohol and opiates. The latter was prescribed to Oliver for back pain and his blood-alcohol level was below the legal limit, but the two together caused him to fail field sobriety tests, according to the police report. The charge is a felony because of a prior OWI conviction. Police stopped Oliver at about 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, in the 300 block of West U.S. 6, for failing to dim his headlights.
