VALPARAISO — The design for the planned two-lane roundabout at Five Points Intersection is done, and work could begin in April.
City Engineer Tim Burkman told the Board of Works Thursday that the Indiana Department of Transportation will ask for bids from contractors on March 6.
The work will be done in phases, cutting off no more than one leg of Roosevelt Road, Vale Park Drive or Calumet Avenue at a time and finishing by the end of the construction season.
Work will include the $482,087 replacement and relocation of an 80-year-old original, cast iron water main, of which federal grants will pay for $369,774.
Mayor Jon Costas joked, “I’ve already promised many citizens that we will offer free driving instructions.”
