PORTAGE — Delivery of new totes for Portage’s new garbage toters has fallen slightly behind schedule, but the city will move forward with the new plan starting Feb. 4.
Republic Services, which is contracted by the city, said weather conditions have impeded the delivery of all the totes.
“There are 19 employees delivering carts seven days a week, eight to 10 hours a day,” said Jim Metros, spokesman of Republic Services. “However, due to the recent weather conditions, the delivery of the carts has been slightly behind our anticipated delivery date.”
The Portage Sanitation Department will move forward with the new program. Any items for pickup should be set out during the assigned pickup date, even if the resident hasn’t received his new toters. Residents who have their new toters are expected to use them as required by city ordinance.
