Market vendor sues over storm injury
One of the long-time produce sellers from the city’s farmer’s market is suing over an injury she received when a severe July 24 storm blew a metal barricade into her.
A suit filed Feb. 14 by Debbie Harrison, owner of Deb’s Gardens, and her husband Robert Harrison states that the barricade was improperly installed and that Valparaiso Community Festivals and Events was negligent.
The incident happened at Central Park Plaza Market, where the city blocks off Lafayette Street with barricades that resemble heavy bike racks.
Harrison has been with the market since it was on the Courthouse square.
She declined to speak about the matter or the extent of her injury without her attorney’s permission, and attorney David A. Wilson was not in his office Monday. Harrison previously showed photos of a wound to a reporter shortly after the incident.
Valparaiso Community Festivals and Events officials didn’t return a call on the matter on Monday.
