Men accused of
taking 12 guns
Two Porter County men have been charged with felony theft for helping themselves to 12 guns and jewelry while visiting a 17-year-old female at her aunt’s and uncle’s home.
Michael J. Adams, 21, of Valparaiso and Jonathan M. Russo, 22, of Portage, are accused of taking the items Oct. 12 and selling some at pawn shops.
They both face up to three years in prison.
Valpo man charged
in BP station theft
A Valparaiso man has been charged with two felonies for stealing from the Valparaiso BP station on Calumet Avenue.
Brandon Phillip Deardruff, 23, faces up to three years in prison for felony theft and up to eight for felony burglary.
He’s accused of stealing two bags of ice from the unlocked, outdoor freezer Feb. 11 and of throwing something through the glass doors and stealing cigarettes with another man Feb. 12.
The two men entered wearing ski masks and stole 63 packs of cigarettes.
Both incidents were caught on video, and the owner identified Deardruff as a frequent customer.
gets fed grant
The Hebron Volunteer Fire Department received a grant under the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters (AFG) program to purchase new helmets.
Capt. Ross Steffel said between 32 and 35 helmets will be replaced. Many were up to 10 years old and in need of replacement.
