Pregnant woman alleges battery
A Hammond man has been charged with battery resulting in injury to a pregnant woman, a Class C felony that carries a prison sentence of up to eight years.
Christopher D. Anderson, 37, is also charged with two misdemeanors, domestic battery and interference with the reporting of a crime, for the Feb. 14 incident.
Anderson had moved back into the Valparaiso home after he left a few weeks earlier, but he began packing again on Feb. 14 after the woman’s two children left for school.
The woman, who was nine weeks pregnant, had changed the locks the first time so he wouldn’t return and clear out the apartment, and this time she was taking photos of her things.
Angered, he threw a flat-screen television and hit her chest, then toppled a dresser on her as she sat next to the bed.
When she tried to call police, he threw her cell phone in the toilet and dragged her to the living room.
She locked him out when he took things to his car.
