Probation for pair of stealing crimes
A Michigan City man won’t be spending any more time incarcerated for stealing from a friend’s mother, but he will serve four years on probation for a Porter County, plus probation for similar events in LaPorte County where he stole from his family.
William R. Yocum, 35, was staying with a friend’s family in Porter County, telling them he had been kicked out, and he stole jewelry and checks, which he forged. The friend’s mother found one of her rings, pawn tickets and the stolen wallet of one of Yocum’s relatives in his belongings after he fled.
Yocum said during sentencing that he did it because of a drug addiction.
Court records don’t estimate how much he stole, but he will need to repay it as part of his probation.
