Feds waiting as man sentenced
A Valparaiso man who pleaded guilty to a child molesting charge was sentenced in a rushed hearing Wednesday because federal agents in Arkansas wanted him extradited to face different charges there.
Douglas James Christopher, 59, received a sentence of time served -- 265 days -- for his plea to Class C felony Child Molesting and will be on probation.
The incidents took place three times between May and June 2010 with Christopher giving a 13-year-old girl $20 each time she allowed him to touch her.
As part of his plea, the prosecution dropped drop three charges of Class D felony attempt to obstruct justice for phone calls to the girl’s mother from Porter County Jail, trying to get he girl to recant her accusations.
