VALPARAISO — A physician with practices in Valparaiso and Merrillville was arrested Thursday following the Valparaiso Police Department’s lengthy investigation of a female patient’s complaints.
In September, the woman told police Dr. Jose Agusti groped her inappropriately in an examination room at his practice, at 60 S. Valparaiso St., and also exposed himself to her, according to a news release from the police department. Agusti, 45, whom police described as from Chicago but who listed an Ogden Dunes address when he was booked at Porter County Jail, was arrested at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at his office on Valparaiso Street and charged with one count of criminal deviate conduct, a Class B felony; and one count of sexual battery, a Class D felony.
Agusti, a doctor of internal medicine, also has a practice at 8300 Broadway in Merrillville and is affiliated with the Community Healthcare System and St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. He attended Universidad Peruan Cayeta, a top medical school in Peru; completed his internship and residency at Illinois Masonic Medical Center and a fellowship at Georgetown University Hospital, according to Community’s Web site.
