Woman admits attack on grandmother
After admitting to battering her 67-year-old grandmother without provocation, Jessica Berndt, 22, of rural Portage, asked police to take her to the hospital. Berndt was taken to jail and put in a padded cell on suicide watch instead.
She is charged with felony battery for reportedly punching the older woman repeatedly in the head and chest and pulling her hair. The two women were fighting on the floor, with two young children hiding under the kitchen table a few feet away, when a caregiver, returning from a 10- to 15-minute errand, found them at the older woman’s home, in the 100 block of Valley Drive, east of Portage.
The victim was treated for chest pain, shortness of breath and defensive wounds to her hands.
Berndt, who was released from jail earlier this week on bond for a prostitution charge, also was charged with trespassing, a misdemeanor, since police previously had issued her a trespass warning for the property.
fought for cats
Casey Lonadier, 21, was arrested Thursday for allegedly battering a 21-year-old Center Township man at her home, in the 500 block of East Glendale Boulevard.
The pair argued around 9:25 a.m. when the victim, who was moving out, returned to take their cats and Lonadier tried to stop him, each told police. Only the man had injuries.
