Two men were injured from stab wounds Tuesday morning after a disagreement over a woman, according to the Portage Police Department.
Police received a call shortly before 10 a.m. about a stabbing that happened in the 6000 block of McCasland Avenue, Sgt. Keith Hughes said. They immediately set up a perimeter to search for a male suspect and soon traced the unidentified man to his apartment just south of the Indiana Toll Road.
Police believed at the time he was barricaded in his apartment and, because they knew had a weapon, they called for SWAT help.
However, Hughes said, the man was actually in an apartment in the next building cleaning up his own wound, a cut to the face. The residents of that apartment told him to leave, and he came out before S.W.A.T. arrived.
Both men were taken to Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso. Hughes said he didn’t know how serious their injuries were.
Hughes said police haven’t had a chance to speak with everyone involved yet but that so far it looks like both men had recently dated the same woman.
