VALPARAISO — Police are investigating a former bookkeeper at A&M Farm Center for possibly stealing $146,932 from the business to support a gambling problem.
Owner Mark Abbett told police he fired the woman, who has worked for the company at 374 W. U.S. 6, Valparaiso, for approximately 30 years, in March because of suspicions that she was responsible for the missing money. Since then, Blue Chip Casino has sent correspondence to the woman’s business email account, Abbett said.
Abbett hired an accountant in September to look over the company’s bank accounts because they were not balancing and cash appeared to be missing. On Tuesday, the accountant presented his report, which detailed transactions going back to December 2011.
No arrest has been made.
