Drug use tied to domestic battery
Zachary Dees, 24, reportedly attacked his 22-year-old girlfriend when she found out he allegedly was using drugs again and told him to move out, she told police. She said he pushed her in the chest and squeezed her throat at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, in front of their two small children, at their home in the 300 block of Beige. She said he also stepped on the house phone and threw a cell phone out a window, breaking both phones and the window. He reportedly kicked the door and struck the trailer’s deck with his vehicle as he left. After police and the victim left, Dees returned home and was found rolling marijuana cigarettes with another man at about 8:20 p.m., police said. Dees, who told police the woman made everything up, was arrested for felony domestic battery, strangulation and maintaining a common nuisance, and misdemeanor interfering with the reporting of a crime and possession of marijuana. The second man, Kyle Reyna, 22, of Portage, was charged with visiting a common nuisance, a misdemeanor.
Couple physically fought over who got TV
An 8-year-old boy got help from a neighbor when his parents began physically fighting over their furniture and their break-up at about 6 p.m. Wednesday, in the 2300 block of Locust. Scotty Morris, 32, allegedly choked the woman three separate times when she tried to block him from taking a TV and other electronics, and the boy said he also tackled her and threatened to kill her. The 27-year-old woman had visible injuries, said police, who arrested Morris for felony domestic battery and strangulation.
Man arrested for pushing ex-wife
A 35-year-old Valparaiso man was arrested for allegedly pushing his 32-year-old ex-wife when he went to her home to pick up documents, but they ended up arguing over a camera and child custody, according to the police report. The fight allegedly happened at about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday north of Hebron, in the 700 west block of south County Road 450. There were no visible injuries. Shaun Estes was arrested for felony domestic battery.
