Updated: May 17, 2013 6:18AM

VALPARAISO — A seventh-grader was arrested Friday morning for allegedly bringing a large knife to Thomas Jefferson Middle School.

Other students told school officials the suspect had shown off the dagger on a school bus, according to details police released Monday. The knife was found in the student’s locker, and the student gave conflicting reasons for why he brought it to school.

The student was taken to the Porter County Juvenile Detention Center on a misdemeanor charge of possession of a knife on school property.
