PORTER COUNTY

Harley stolen from locked garage

A 2006 Harley-Davidson Road King motorcycle was stolen, along with assorted parts for a different Harley, between April 7 and Monday, while its owner was on vacation. The property was in a locked detached garage in the 800 block of Center Street, across the county line from Westville, although the key was in the motorcycle’s ignition. The doorknob lock was damaged in the burglary, according to the police report. The loss is estimated at more than $26,800.

Underage drinker had loaded gun

Denton Dowell, 19, of Wheatfield, was arrested at about 1:35 a.m. Sunday for underage drinking and possession of a concealed weapon without a permit. Police said Dowell was stopped for passing a vehicle in a no-passing zone on a hill in the area of County Roads 100S and 600W, east of Lakes of the Four Seasons. A loaded handgun was under the bench seat of his pickup, police said.

Driver admitted causing crash

Matthew Malocha, 34, of Hobart, was arrested for misdemeanor drunken driving after being in a two-vehicle crash at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, east of Lakes of the Four Seasons. Malocha told police he was going north on County Road 600W and stopped for the stop sign at County Road 100S, but he did not look to the left before crossing the intersection. He struck an eastbound vehicle, which did not have a stop sign, police said. Malocha also was ticketed for failure to yield. Both vehicles were disabled and towed from the scene.

VALPARAISO

Man accused of striking ex-wife

Scott Konija, 41, of Valparaiso, was arrested for misdemeanor domestic battery Monday after allegedly fighting with his ex-wife for the previous several days at her home, in the 3300 block of Siena Drive, where he also had been staying. Although the 41-year-old woman initially told police, who arrived at about 1:55 p.m. Monday, she dialed 911 by accident, there was blood on her clothing and police got her to talk about a fight she just had with Konija over property he was loading into his vehicle. She also accused Konija of deliberately backing his vehicle into her on Saturday, showing healing wounds from the incident, police said. Konjia was found and arrested at a storage unit he rents near Indiana 49 and U.S. 6.
