HEBRON — Officials with the Porter County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday they are calling their investigation into the partially decomposed body of a male discovered in Boone Township a homicide investigation.
A forensic autopsy earlier in the day showed the adult male died of an apparent gunshot wound. The autopsy also revealed that the male was white or Hispanic.
“We are not releasing anything else at this time because of the sensitivity of the investigation,” said Sgt. Larry LaFlower, who could not recall the last time his department investigated the discovery of a body.
The autopsy did not reveal the victim’s age or how long the body may have been at the scene because of the decomposition, he added.
The sheriff’s department received a 911 call at 5:11 p.m. Monday from someone who was driving by and found the body in a ditch at the junction of County Roads 500W and 1000S, southeast of Hebron. The area is farmland.
Anyone with information or who may have seen any suspicious activity recently in that area is asked to call Cmdr. Jeff Biggs at 477-3141.
