Cable bill dispute leads
to baseball bat threat

Joseph Meulemans, 22, is accused of allegedly threatening a 74-year-old roommate with a baseball bat during an argument at about 2:25 a.m. Wednesday at their home in the 300 block of Union Street.

The victim, who pays the cable bill, yelled at Meulemans for ordering a movie. According to the victim and another roommate, Meulemans then threw a fourth roommate’s cell phone at the older man’s head, narrowly missing and damaging the drywall behind him as well as breaking the phone. The older man then ordered the younger to leave, but as Meulemans gathered up some of his things, he allegedly raised a baseball bat toward the victim.

Meulemans’s words and behavior toward the arresting officer, as described in the police report, also could be interpreted as threatening. Meulemans was arrested on two counts of felony intimidation and one count of misdemeanor criminal mischief.
