Tera Ross, 24, of Valparaiso, the mother of two young girls, died when she crashed her SUV into a utility pole about 12:20 a.m. Wednesday.
The one-vehicle crash occurred on Indiana 149, just south of County Road 1000N, located east of Portage and north of the Indiana Toll Road.
Porter County Sheriff’s Police said Ross’s 1997 Mitsubishi Montero was southbound on Indiana 149 when it crossed the northbound lane and went off the road roof first, striking a utility pole.
Ross was pronounced dead at the scene. According to her Facebook page, she worked at Quaker Steak and Lube in Portage, was a graduate of Portage High School, and was the mother of two.
The Coroner’s Office will perform toxicology tests to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
