Renter may have stolen appliances
A clothes washer and dryer, refrigerator, upright freezer and air conditioner were reported stolen between June 4 and Wednesday from a rental house in the 300 block of Wilshire Court, in Shorewood Forest. The renter was evicted during this time period, according to the police report. The loss was estimated at $1,400.
Neighbor helped cops arrest suspect
The neighbor of a theft victim and a scrap yard manager helped police find a man who allegedly stole scrap farm equipment from a property in the 400 block of East County Road 1400N, northeast of Chesterton. The neighbor saw a red pickup with a broken back window at the property at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday, and he called police and nearby SIMS Metal Management, 156 E. U.S. 20, with the vehicle description. SIMS, which paid $73 for the metal to a frequent seller, provided police with a photo of the truck and a copy of suspect Brett Jolliff’s driver’s license. Jolliff, 30, of Chesterton, was arrested for felony theft and misdemeanor criminal mischief.
Lawnmower stolen from end of drive
A lawnmower was reported stolen between Monday and Thursday from the 500 block of Rainer Court, in South Haven. The victim told police his son left the Troy Bilt mower at the end of the driveway, and a garbage collector or scrapper may have mistaken it for garbage.
