Law and Order: Teens arrested for hitting mailboxes in Valpo

VALPARAISO

Teens arrested for hitting mailboxes

Two 14-year-old boys were arrested for allegedly vandalizing mailboxes in a neighborhood on the east side of Valparaiso. Both were charged with criminal mischief and resisting law enforcement, and were released to their parents.

Overnight Friday and late Tuesday, three mailboxes in the 2000 block of McCord Road were hit forcefully, with one wood post being split in half.

The suspects were captured after, while checking on a complaint of juveniles ringing doorbells at about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 1600 block of Boca Lago Drive, police saw the teens, who reportedly ran when they saw the squad car. Later, each told police the other did the damage.

Around the same time Tuesday night in the same neighborhood, a vehicle tire was slashed in the 1300 block of Peachtree Drive and — at the home where the doorbell complaint was made — a storm door frame was bent to the point it would no longer close, according to the police report.
