PORTAGE -- A Portage man was struck and killed Tuesday night while crossing a street to retrieve his dog from a neighbor’s house.
Mark Clapp, 47, was struck by two vehicles about 10 p.m. outside his home in the 5800 block of Central Avenue, according to Portage police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
He was walking across Central Avenue to get his dog from a neighbor’s house when an eastbound vehicle hit him, police said. After landing in the westbound lanes, a second vehicle hit him, police said. Neither driver had been drinking at the time of the crash.
Clapp was airlifted to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Ill., where he died about two hours later, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.
Portage police continue to investigate the crash.
