Construction on the new Enbridge pipeline continues through Indiana, and pipe is expected to be in place by the end of the year.
The pipeline route has been marked off, and clearing has passed through Porter County and is starting in the eastern part of Lake County, according to Enbridge spokesperson Jennifer Smith.
“Our goal is to have all 60 miles constructed and in the ground by the end of year,” Smith said. “After that there’s still restoration and testing that will happen throughout 2014.”
The entire pipeline should be operational by mid-2014.
Independent environmental inspectors have been overseeing the process, and weekly reports are posted on the Indiana Department of Environmental Management website at www.in.gov/idem/6798.htm.
