glass to unlock door

Approximately $1,100 cash was reported stolen between 5:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. Wednesday from a home in the 600 block of South County Road 500W, northeast of Hebron.

Police said the burglar appeared to have gotten inside by pushing in a pane of glass in the front door, enabling the person to reach inside to unlock it.

Vehicle damages
hydrant, boat dock

A six-slip boat dock and a fire hydrant were found damaged about 5 p.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of Shorewood Drive in Shorewood Forest.

The hydrant was moved to the water’s edge, about 30 feet from its base. Police believe the damage, estimated at $3,800, was caused by a motor vehicle.

SOUTH HAVEN

2 arrested for lying about suspect

While serving an arrest warrant, police also arrested Cassie Marquis, 29, and Richard Shoback, 27, both of South Haven, for allegedly trying to hide the suspect from police.

When officers arrived about 5:10 p.m. Wednesday at the home of suspect Paul Crews, in the 700 block of Heritage Road, they saw him through the front window.

When Marquis and Shoback came to the door, however, they said Crews wasn’t there. Police found Crews hiding behind the kitchen island.

He was arrested on the warrant and an additional charge of resisting law enforcement.

The other two were arrested for misdemeanor false informing.

VALPARAISO

Passenger in traffic stop faces charges

After pulling over a vehicle for speeding, at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday on Lincolnway at Madison Street, police arrested its passenger on three warrants and on new drug charges.

Police said Brandon Jorgensen, 21, of Valparaiso, was sleeping and difficult to wake, and that he gave a false name.

Jorgensen was charged with felony possession of heroin, felony possession of a hypodermic needle and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was wanted in Porter County on a felony drug charge, and in Lake Station and Lake County on additional charges.
