PORTER — The National Park Service has issued a finding of no significant impact for the Wabash Avenue/Porter access site for the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
The document can be found at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/indu.
The selected alternative includes coordination with the town of Porter to improve the sidewalk along Wabash Avenue for visitor safety and to improve accessibility. The national lakeshore will correct problems associated with the foot-wash station, and restore the dune north of the town parking lot. Based on input from the public, additional parking, a pavilion with picnic tables, and a new traffic circulation pattern were not included in the preferred alternative.
Park officials had five alternatives under consideration, including one that included no action at the site.
