VALPARAISO — Kathy Kozuszek, Democrat director in Porter County’s Voter Registration Office, has announced that she is running on the Democratic ticket as Porter County Clerk of the Circuit Court in the coming year.

Republican Karen Martin is in her first term as county clerk. Martin, who is expected to seek a second term, is a former member and president of the Porter County Council.

Kozuszek, of Chesterton, has worked in the Voter Registration Office since 2001, and has been Democrat director since 2007. She also is active in the county’s Democratic Party.

Her role in voter registration has provided much of the experience she needs to serve as clerk, she said.

“I have personally overseen all of the elections that have been held in Porter County,” while in voter registration, Kozuszek said. “I have demonstrated a history of respecting the public’s trust and saving taxpayer dollars.”

If elected, Kozuszek said she would continue to improve voter access to elections by resisting efforts to eliminate neighborhood voting locations through what she said are “inconvenient and distant vote centers.”

She also said she would continue with the cost saving measures she has implemented in the administration of the county’s elections, and work with the county’s judges “to ensure fair, impartial and accessible judicial process for every citizen.”
