A 19-year-old Valparaiso man died in a fiery head-on crash between his car and a tractor trailer shortly before 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Matthew Dusette suffered multiple blunt force traumas and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris.
His 18-year-old female passenger was airlifted to South Bend Memorial hospital with serious internal injuries, after initially being taken to Porter hospital in Valparaiso.
The 51-year-old driver of the truck was not injured in the crash, in the 600 south block of Indiana 49, so he was able to escape his truck when it caught fire.
According to the initial investigation by the Porter County Sheriff’s Department, it appears the 19-year-old man was at the wheel of the red 2008 Chevrolet Aveo when it crossed the center line and struck the truck head-on.
The Porter County coroner’s office will perform toxicology tests to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
Kouts and Indiana State police, the Indiana Department of Transportation, and the Kouts and Morgan Township fire departments assisted at the scene.
