PORTAGE — A woman’s embarrassment may have led her to threaten two men that she went to a hotel with, but she told police she did it because she thought she may have been raped.
Stefanie Bradford, 31, of Hobart, admittedly pointed one victim’s guns at the men and ordered them to strip.
A bullet went into a mattress when the gun accidentally went off, Bradford told police. The men, brothers living at the Deluxe Travel Inn, at 6101 U.S. 20, told police they met Bradford at Shenanigan’s Bar on Saturday night.
Sometime between midnight and 1 a.m. Sunday, the three of them went back to the hotel to continue drinking.
They all fell asleep around 2 a.m. and the brothers, ages 29 and 31, told police everyone was still wearing their clothes and no one had sex. They said Bradford woke at about 9:15 a.m. after wetting the bed, told them not to be mad at her because she had a medical condition, then allegedly grabbed a handgun and threatened to kill herself and them when they said they would take her home.
Bradford’s version of the early morning’s events was very different. She told police a hooker was in the hotel room when they arrived so she immediately wanted to leave, but she was hit in the head from behind and did not remember anything else until she woke later in the morning.
She said she pointed the gun at the men and made them strip in order to hold them there for police, in case she had been raped.
Police had Bradford taken to the hospital to be evaluated and noted she had no sign of a head injury. Bradford was arrested on multiple felony charges: criminal confinement, intimidation, criminal recklessness with a weapon and two counts of pointing a firearm. She also is charged with interfering with the reporting of a crime, for allegedly ordering one of the men to put down his cell phone when he attempted to call 911.
