To the Gary City Council: We don’t have enough businesses here and, every time someone tries to open one, you don’t allow it. Now, Beckman Middle School will remain just another shuttered, vandalized building. Stop turning down people who are going to bring jobs and business into the city.

What do the Cedar Lake Town Council and Mitt Romney have in common? 1. They are Republican. 2. They like to fire people. 3. They are incompetent. 4. Both will be defeated in the next election, except for Bob Carnahan.

The Portage Kmart is closing.

Meijer’s is coming in to take over. Great job, Mayor Snyder. Thank you for a job well done.

I just read the comment about Portage being unplowed and unmanageable. We thought the roads were fine. At least this year they are using straight salt instead of salt mixed with cinders, so our grass isn’t getting full of cinders.

A proposed Merrillville solar farm is contingent upon a federal grant. The developer admits the 6,800-plus solar panels would be built in China. Using American tax dollars to buy products made in China is wrong.
