The RDA claims for every $1 they spend there is a $5 return in economic development. Their latest project is to spend up to $200,000 to raze the former Sheraton Hotel in downtown Gary. Per their figures this will bring $1,000,000 in economic development to the city. In July Gary estimated there are 3,000 homes needing to be razed at a cost of $40,000,000. If the RDA will take on this project, it will bring $200,000,000 in economic development to the city. What are they waiting for?
