Portage and Crown Point mayors changing trick-or-treat because of some rain — what were you thinking?

The neighbor was burning leaves and branches in his back yard Saturday. I told him the wind was blowing it right at my house and he said, “Shut your windows.”

It was a great weekend for Crown Point sports. Congratulations to the Crown Point varsity cheer competition team for qualifying at state prelims. They will return to Southport to compete for state next weekend.

Quickly, I’ve read some complaints from Portage citizens about people operating a business in and storing work vehicles at their homes and blocking sidewalks. Hopefully Portage code enforcement people, if there are any, will address the issue.

I’ve seen the damage to the Valparaiso dome

after the heat was turned off and the pipes froze. This is all repairable. This is the most solid structure in all of NWI since the Hotel Lempke was torn down in 1988. It would be a great community center and would be my first choice as where to be in case of a tornado or other disaster.
