To the town of Winfield, Sunday, severe weather in our area, tornadoes, winds and heavy rain, but no sirens in our area alerting folks to the weather alert that was on television. Somebody must have been asleep. There ought to be something done about it right away.

It would be a nice excuse that the Gary Police Department has bigger things to do than worrying about burning leaves if we were getting drug house raids, major gun busts or murder arrests. But we’re getting none of this.

My husband and I recently dined at a Portage restaurant, and the waitress came to our table 16 times to take our order and inquire if our food was OK. Next time I’ll just ask her to dine with us so she won’t have to do so much walking.

The Merrillville police need to sit by the stop sign at 75th Avenue and Madison Street. I have seen too many cars go straight through that sign on Madison Street and not stop. There is going to be a bad accident there someday.

Valparaiso’s huge water rate increase should be phased in over a much longer period. The planned rapid phase-in will kill old people on fixed incomes. Have they thought of that?
