April 15 will be just another day if we pass the Fair Tax

Have you completed your 2012 income tax form(s) yet? How long did you spend gathering all your receipts needed to prepare your income tax return? If you engaged a professional tax preparer, how much did it cost you? Just complying with the income tax is a real burden. Doesn’t this bother you just a little bit?

In a Fair Tax White Paper written by Karen Walby, Ph.D. and revised in 2012 one finds for every $4 paid in income tax by individuals it costs the taxpayer $5. A staggering $431 billion annually is wasted just paying our tax bill.

If the income tax was replaced with the Fair Tax, the government receives the same tax money, we don’t waste $431 billion annually, no tax return forms to complete and April 15 becomes just another nice spring day. Call and email your representative and senators; tell them you want the Fair Tax.

Obama is a good president but some can’t see it yet

When President Obama was inaugurated in 2009, Republican leaders vowed to make him fail even though the economy was in the most dangerous collapse since 1929-1932. Treason? Support for the banks, bailouts of the auto industry which saved the auto industry in the U.S. and billions of stimulus gifts to the state budgets stabilized the economy, and jobs began to return. All was accomplished even though Republicans vetoed (filibustered) over 300 bills, many of which were Republican ideas in the first place.

In November, 51 percent of the votes had the intelligence to re-elect Barack Obama. The negative opinion letters continue. One writer declared the voters as ignorant and fraudulent, revealing a towering conceit. Many of the voters in several states had to stand in line for many hours because Republican legislators attempted to limit voting hours for working people. Barack Obama is a good caring president even though he is somewhat black.

Change in jail visiting hours hard on inmate families

Being the grandmother of one of the inmates at the Newton County jail I was informed visiting hours were being changed. No more Sundays and no more evenings. Thankfully they let Easter Sunday be the last Sunday. How do they expect us to see our loved ones? Most of us work. If my employer lets me leave early which would have to be at 12:30 it’s a two-hour drive for me. Otherwise it will only be court days. There is another gentleman who has a five-hour trip. How can three people decide our fate?

To them they are just cons. To us they are our sons, daughters, grandsons, granddaughters, moms, dads, sisters, brothers. And we will not be able to see them, all because there is not enough money. Where is the money going?
