Jimmy Carter’s legacy will show he was among finest
History will be kind to Jimmy Carter. No question: Within 100 years or maybe much less, Jimmy Carter will be celebrated as the equivalent of a Protestant/evangelical saint. History will recognize his genuine accomplishment of delicately balancing the imperatives of faith with public policy.
In time, we will realize that the tenor of our present partisan comments is a simply a symptom of a passing affliction of hyper-polarized acrimony. Events will surely arise that will cause many more of us to behave like adults. In time, many more of us will also honor real human progress rather than ingrained biases and cherished political ideologies.
Thanks to sheriff, inmates for cleaning up our messes
Many thanks to Sheriff Buncich for initiating the clean up of our roadways by the County Work Release Force. I’m sure these inmates, who have committed minor infractions, would rather be outside on a beautiful spring day than incarcerated. This is a big help to the community. I’m sorry so many people don’t value where they live ( this earth ) or the environment.
Amnesty for immigrants in U.S. illegally is dangerous
Sen. Marco Rubio and others are misleading citizens to “push” for another blanket amnesty program for illegal aliens.
Earlier waves of immigrants came to America to escape high taxes and persecution. They asked for and received nothing from our government except a chance to be free and prosper. Today, some studies I found on the Internet say 70 percent of immigrants get some form of government aid.
Earlier waves of immigrants were screened and those who did not meet our standards were refused entry and sent home to protect our population from diseases and criminals. The illegal aliens have not been screened. That is racist! It is like saying that somehow illegal aliens are naturally superior to earlier immigrants.
I help senior citizens with medical bills. I know illegal aliens are a chief reason for the problem of identity theft. Senior citizens are often victims. Many illegal aliens rob and use other people’s social security, Medicare and insurance policy numbers. Many illegal aliens carried illegal drugs or weapons materials when they crossed our borders. We need serious screening of aliens to know where they have been and what they’ve been doing so we can punish those who harm our citizens.
On a recent news program, I heard that 25,000 people from countries that have many people who hate America and Americans have overstayed their student visas and are now here illegally. The recent bombing in Boston proves we do not screen aliens enough and we do not keep track of foreign students who quit college. Blanket amnesty of illegal aliens is foolish, dangerous, and racist!
