Benghazi scandal told in verse, could it be worse?
If puzzled by the Benghazi scandal, let me offer a condensed, self-authored, up-to-date summary for busy Post-Tribune readers.
U.S. embassy post. Near the Libyan coast. A bright statesman its host. The kind you guard most.
Security weak. More protection they seek, though ignored week by week.
Terrorists attack. Men bravely fight back. Defenders alone. Left there on there own. To handle the raid. With no U.S. rid. No rescue plans made.
The ambassador died. Three colleagues at side. Their families cried. Officials then lied.
Were terrorists the foe? The White House said no. They cited, instead, a cheap video.
The movie, a fake, gave Islamists a break. The U.S. took blame, though it sullied our name.
Contrition was in with a White House spin. Presidential apologies shocked the U.N. For the Chief of campaign politics reigned. But four men had been slain. Al-Quada remained.
Not quite on the run. The terrorists had won.
The White House had gambled. The facts it had scrambled. Jay Carney rambled, the truth all in shambles.
The spin got all jumbled. The story line crumbled. Hillary stumbled and Susan Rice tumbled. The White House had bumbled. Partisans mumbled. Republicans grumbled. Senators rumbled. Wanting Democrats humbled.
U.S. should not wait to leave Afghanistan, just go now
The PBS Memorial day program at the Capitol Mall was outstanding. Their info on the 27 vets who kill themselves a day due to lack of help and are not getting what they need was very moving.
The president gave us good news that we will be out of the Afghan war by a date next year. As a historian I must warn what happened at the end WWI: The armistice was set at the 11th hour of the 11th day of November. Before that hour many hundreds were killed on both sides fired on each other before 11 a.m. Nov. 11, 1918.
Let’s bring the troops now and save thousands, why wait for just before the midterm elections? If the militants reestablish themselves and set up an infrastructure; we can then knock it down.

Can’t change the meaning of marriage just for yourself
Marriage is a legal contract between two people that love one another. “Traditional marriage” deserves the same status as “marriage.” If people wish to add religious or spiritual connotations to their relationship so be it. I love the all or nothing mentality of the far-right. Not EVERYONE is gay. Adam and Eve probably got along just fine with Adam and Irv. Didn’t have all the labels back then. Being a progressive I have come up with a politically correct name for these relationships — marriage. You can’t take a word and make it your very own.
