Stop playing politics with Benghazi
Yes, you missed a few salient points in your response to my Benghazi letter. (Your Views, Nov. 14)
Yes, there was confusion in Benghazi during and after the attack — all of this was happening in the middle of a civil war and the bad guys didn’t wear orange uniforms with “Bad Guy” labels on them.
The initial intelligence reports surmised this was a reaction to the now famous YouTube video.
Counterterrorism director Matthew Olsen told Sen. Joe Lieberman that “Benghazi was a terrorist attack” a few DAYS after the Rice TV appearances. The fact that the Republicans cut millions of dollars from embassy security was “detrimental” to defense efforts. There was probably too much information from the FBI and the CIA but at least this time we were not plunged into another war based on “slam dunk” faulty intelligence.
And lastly, Mr. Brooks, what about the 10 other attacks on U.S. embassies that killed 60 and wounded over 100 during the Bush presidency. Where, oh where, were the concerned patriots then? Benghazi is a political football that gets “Tea’d” up every few weeks by Fox Noise.
