How to build a road
Call it an expressway. Don’t mention it’s a toll road.
Tell the folks it’s a private/public partnership. Don’t discuss the taxpayers’ portion of the deal.
Announce to Hoosiers it will reduce traffic on the Borman. Don’t mention it will only be cut by 8 percent after 24 years.
Brag about the need for improved infrastructure. Don’t mention our current crumbling roads and bridges.
Claim it’s only a few people who are against the “Road of Dreams.” Don’t mention the thousands of names on petitions against the “Road to Nowhere.”
The Illiana Toll Road proposal is being pushed by politicians who have been stuffing their campaign coffers with money from both corporate and union honchos who have a vested interest in this boondoggle moving forward. The big losers in this game of “shuffling the money” will be Indiana taxpayers. We are co-signors on the biggest con-game since the destruction of the Kankakee Marsh and Beaver Lake. Not enough people spoke up then. Will history repeat itself?
