PITTSBURGH – Andrew McCutchen continued his one-man beating of the Cubs on Wednesday afternoon, delivering run-scoring hits in each of the first two innings as the Pittsburgh Pirates completed a three-game sweep of the Cubs with a 4-2, rain-interrupted victory at PNC Park.

McCutchen, who drove in the only run in the Pirates’ win Tuesday night, had three hits, two stolen bases and scored a run as the Pirates sent the Cubs to their fourth straight loss.

With the Pirates leading 4-1 in the Cubs’ half of the fourth inning, the game was stopped by a strong downpour.

The Cubs had runners at the corners with two out and one run already in when the rain hit.

Neither starting pitcher returned when play resumed after the 1-hour, 47-minute delay. Reliever Vin Mazzaro quickly ended the Cubs’ interrupted rally by getting Welington Castillo on a sharp grounder toward the hole at third.

Pedro Alvarez made the diving stop and threw Castillo out on a close play.

The Cubs continue their six-game trip against division opponents when they open a three-game series Friday at Cincinnati against the defending NL Central champions.
