The University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children’s Hospital has upgraded Nathan Woessner’s condition from critical to serious.
“He has been extubated, is recovering from sedation and continues to respond to commands,” according to Dr. Rachel Wolfson, his attending physician.
The 6-year-old Sterling, Ill., boy was trapped for more than three hours beneath 11 feet of sand at Mount Baldy in Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore on Friday, July 12.
