Even Republicans are getting sick and tired of Boehner and his do-nothing traitors in the House. They couldn’t agree on when to get their limos washed. Now they’re off on a five-week vacation to raise money to get re-elected. Talk about welfare. Yes, I’ve been a Rush Limbaugh listener since 1988. If you would listen to him, too, you would see that he has no hatred for anyone, just things that destroy people’s lives. I can’t tell you how many times callers have told Rush that they hated him until they listened to him, and after they listened for a … ]]> Fri, 01 Aug 2014 02:02:43 -0500 <![CDATA[ Quickly, July 31 ]]> Lead story image

Do people really listen to Rush Limbaugh? He has become a cartoon character filled with ignorance and pure hatred. Here we sit in Northwest Indiana with one of the largest refineries in the country in our backyard, yet we pay 30 cents more per gallon than anywhere else in the state. Every time I get out-of-town visitors, they complain about our gas prices. We may as well shut down the local BP refinery and buy our gasoline from the refineries used by the rest of the state. Sometimes I wonder if loving another person is truly worth the pain you … ]]> Thu, 31 Jul 2014 02:01:42 -0500 <![CDATA[ Quickly, July 30 ]]> Lead story image

What’s the best-kept secret in Northwest Indiana? Why it’s the South Shore commuter railroad. It runs every day taking folks to high-paying jobs in Chicago. If only our politicians and local leaders knew this we wouldn’t have to spend $500 billion on a second commuter line. Anybody in Dyer or Munster wanting a high-paying job simply needs to drive to the South Shore railroad stations in Hammond, East Chicago and Gary. One nice thing about narcissists is that they never talk about other people. I love reading comments from pompous people commenting about how little everyone else knows about politics. How amusing you are to me. So sad to see the Korean War memorial off U.S. 231 flying those tattered pieces of cloth. Those men and women deserve beautiful flags to show how grateful we are to all our veterans. No, he’s not the flag police. He’s probably a veteran whose has protected that flag and allowed you to make unwanted comments. Gary, you need to wake up. What has the Jackson family done for Gary? We need to bring freedom and democracy to our own cities. The weapons of mass destruction — heroin and cocaine — are known to all. Call out the National Guard. The cheapest way to trace your family tree is to run for public office. Believing that free market forces will solve problems is as absurd as believing a laundry fairy will come and do your laundry for you. Then the dirty laundry keeps piling up and you realize there is no laundry fairy. The five days after the weekend are always the most difficult for me. I got a laugh from Thursday’s Page 2 articles regarding Gary’s schools. The school board should focus more on the teaching cuts and low enrollment than on renaming a school after Michael Jackson. Is the board hoping to receive millions of dollars from the Jackson family? If the Jackson family were going to give money to Gary, Michael would have long ago. Give it a rest and move on already. If they are going to build a detention center in Hobart it should be for Hobart residents only. If the unions are successful in persuading a judge to outlaw right-to-work legislation, does that mean all the newly created right-to-work jobs get shipped back to Illinois or the other states where they came from? The surplus in Indiana means that there are children who are going without needed services and there are roads that are severely neglected. Are we paying taxes so that our governor can try to boost his image for a run to the White House? I can’t think of a greater insult for the man who created the national parks than to rename the school named … ]]> Fri, 25 Jul 2014 02:01:50 -0500 <![CDATA[ Quickly, July 24 ]]> Lead story image

God doesn’t tell people what they want to hear. Some people have selective hearing, they hear what they want to hear, and they block out the rest. Who would have guessed? Michael Moore, the critic of the rich and corporations, is actually one of the 1 percenters. According to his divorce documents, he and his ex-wife are worth $2 billion and have nine houses. The attempts by some politicians and liberal groups to give amnesty to illegal aliens is a slap in the face to all of those legal immigrants. In rejecting Common Core, Gov. Mike Pence and his allies are apparently suggesting that Indiana education should be Indiana-specific. One of the Indiana-specific things students should learn is that when someone is elected to public office in Indiana it doesn’t necessarily mean that that person will actually be allowed by the opposition political party to serve in that office Why does God always tell some people only what they want to hear? It’s not so much that Republicans blame Obama for everything, it’s that the Democrats don’t blame him for anything. If the incumbent president (Obama) is responsible for every current terrorist tragedy, who was then responsible for 9/11? (Hint, who ignored a warning in August 2001 of planes being used in domestic attacks?) Why are the Bailed Out Big Banks making “below prime” new and used car loans. It’s a problem that will become a catrasthope - where o where are the regulators. It’s about time John Dillinger came home again. To the individual who sideswiped my green Jeep Liberty in Hobart, you will get your karma. Thank you for sideswiping my Jeep and running. You drive a red Chrysler-looking car and I will be looking for you, but in the meantime, I am asking my guardian angels to surround you. Shame on you. I’m so thrilled. Schererville is going to get its own roundabout. I’m going to take my chair down and watch all the poor Hoosiers try to manage it. So many think you have to go through one at 55 mph. Conservatives have a very narrow definition of family and think they own the concept of family values. Families that don’t fit into their narrow definition don’t seem to have any value. Too bad. I think the fair carnies show more class than most tattooed people I see. Where is the outrage in Indiana? Gov. Pence basically eliminated an elected superintendent of schools. The reason is because she was a Democrat. Doesn’t anyone care that this is happening? How sad. The person who thought the EPA was “another stupid liberal idea,” who wants me to drink poisonous water and breath in toxic substances in the air, is too uneducated to know anything about biology or chemistry — or that Richard Nixon, a Republican, created the EPA. Does anyone remember when the U.S. shot down an Iranian Airbus killing over 200 people? It was 1988 and we gave the families $205,000 per passenger and admitted no guilt. Lake County must really want its own people painting the courthouse. I wonder why? Wouldn’t you know, with this beautiful weather you can open the windows and let in a little fresh air, and the village idiot neighbor has to start a fire and smoke up the whole neighborhood. The American people should sue the House of Representatives for nonperformance of duty and seek to recover all salaries and expenses for the past six years. More handouts equal more liberal voters. I am sick to death of politics. The person with the most money wins it all. This is not what is best for everyone, just the power brokers at the top. I love kids, all kids. But we can’t accept kids from other countries and feed, educate and medicate them when we have children here going without. Take care of our own first. PT sports writer John Mutka is great at interesting and insightful coverage of local athletes. Mike Hutton is doing a wonderful job following in his footsteps. To the person who wants George back to “straighten out this mess” — did you forget who got us into this mess in the first place? Oh, great. According to the State Ethics Commission, seven statewide elected officials can use state property for campaign purposes. You’re right ... suing the president will not solve anything.
