Hey, Quickly, publish this for the people in Gary: The city is hosting public forums on what is going on at the airport. Before you start complaining, why don’t you go to one and get educated. So another Lake County elected official is indicted on corruption charges. You’ve got to wonder how much longer the voters will continue to elect these clowns. Statewide high school graduation rates went down from 88.7 percent to 88.6 percent overall from 2012 to 2013. Looks like all that time and money spent by the Republican majority on charter schools, vouchers and takeovers is really … ]]> Fri, 18 Apr 2014 02:05:32 -0500 <![CDATA[ Quickly’s Neighbors, April 18 ]]> Lead story image

Does this mean no more movie nights with the mayor in Lake Station? That would break my heart. That is why our founding fathers gave us the Second Amendment — so we can rein in the government. Other countries do not have a constitution like ours. How about people like you moving to another country? Right-To-Work cure cancer? Get real. Right-To-Work may be bringing good-paying jobs to Indiana at the expense of other states, but that is all. It is not voodoo. Want to get the maximum benefits from Right-To-Work? Make it a federal law and not a state law … ]]> Fri, 18 Apr 2014 02:07:28 -0500 <![CDATA[ Quickly, April 17 ]]> Lead story image

Waco? Ruby Ridge? C’mon. That law-breaking rancher in Nevada just wants something for nothing. He should pay for his grazing rights like everyone else. But if you’re so afraid of our federal government, why don’t you just pack up and leave our country? I feel so good about right to work in Indiana that I think it will cure cancer. So many good things are happening. Keep hearing this commercial on the radio about how Illinois is trying to pass the “Fair Tax.” Lower income pays less tax, higher income pays more tax. How is that fair? Everyone paying the same … ]]> Thu, 17 Apr 2014 02:05:13 -0500 <![CDATA[ Quickly’s Neighbors, April 17 ]]> Lead story image

1992 Ruby Ridge. 1993 Waco. 2014 Mesquite. I obey the laws of our government that the founding fathers fought to preserve. Not one of my freedoms is being eroded and I am not being led to slaughter. I am a proud, happy, patriotic American. Merging all local towns and cities into one large form of government would be very cost-effective. But what would we do with the vast assortment of leftover egos? Liberals love paying $4 for gas. To the Quickly writer who claims rejecting Christianity makes me an “ignorant heathen” — maybe when they put Christ back into Christianity … ]]> Thu, 17 Apr 2014 02:08:18 -0500 <![CDATA[ Quickly, April 16 ]]> Lead story image

A dusting of snow in April and you think global warming is dead? I guess you think this is the first time snow has fallen this late in the year, too. A national study found Indiana residents paid more of their income on state and local taxes while their income continues to shrink. But hey, let’s just keep trying to lure big businesses here by cutting their taxes. Now that April 15 tax day is past we can all relax, especially since the chance of an IRS audit is slim to none unless you are a member of the tea … ]]> Wed, 16 Apr 2014 16:44:00 -0500 <![CDATA[ Quickly’s Neighbors, April 16 ]]> Lead story image

1992 Ruby Ridge, Idaho. 1993 Waco, Texas. 2014 Mesquite, Nev. When will it be your home and family that the government comes to take away? When will our people wake up and stop this government from taking over everything our founding fathers wanted to protect? Our freedoms are being eroded, and we are blindly being led to slaughter. I looked at the calendar and then looked out my window this morning. I can safely state that the era of global warming is over. Rejecting the teachings of Christianity does not make you open-minded or sophisticated. It makes you an ignorant … ]]> Wed, 16 Apr 2014 02:06:47 -0500 <![CDATA[ Quickly’s Neighbors, April 15 ]]> Lead story image

Why would we need an immigration detention center? The illegals are our friends. How can we buy their votes if they are detained? If congressmen feel they are underpaid, they should get a part-time job at Wal-Mart or McDonald’s just like real people do. Parking lots should have larger spaces for people with big cars. I’m tired of parking lots downsizing their parking spaces. Just look out as you drive, and everywhere you look are loads of just plain litter. What are we becoming? The reason the GOP has no chance of winning is because they all operate on the … ]]> Tue, 15 Apr 2014 02:05:59 -0500 <![CDATA[ Quickly, April 14 ]]> Lead story image

If you are thinking about, or are in, education in the state of Indiana, get out. It’s nothing more than a witchhunt. We do not blame the doctor if his patient falls and breaks a leg. We do not blame the dentist if his or her patient gets a cavity. But if a student doesn’t pass a test because they’re lazy and they don’t do the work then it is the teacher’s fault. Now, according to the state board of education, it is the administrators’ fault. It’s a witchhunt. Get out. Let education go to heck in a handbasket, then … ]]> Sun, 13 Apr 2014 02:03:53 -0500 <![CDATA[ Quickly’s Neighbors, April 14 ]]> Lead story image

GOP equals Greed Over People. Pastor Johnson, how pastoral is your will to exile gay people? Which one of the 10 Commandments are gay people not following? There are more adulterers, thieves and murderers in Indiana than gay people. Please meet the God of compassion through Christ in your prayers. People, put your hands in your own pockets. Why do you feel you have the right to take from the youth of today? Shame on you. They do not have to take care of you because they are young and you are old and shameless. Speaking of the price of gas, I’d pay $2.49.9 forever if it would go down to that price. I feel that’s a decent price for gas with inflation taken into consideration. If the people want to work in Chicago so bad, hop in your car and drive there or drive to the train station. That’s your issue, not mine. What is Jeff Manes going to do when he runs out of lefties to interview for his column? There always seems to be quite a lot of debate concerning pension funds. Pension funds are set up as part of a contract. They are not meant to be borrowed from. When you loot a savings program, you will not be able to fund the payout. It’s not that difficult to understand. I’d like to thank my neighbor by Community Park for letting us other neighbors listen to his very loud rap music all day long Saturday while he was playing around in the back yard. OK, OK, OK. The glacier in my yard has receded. So I will, at last, take down my driveway’s snowflake lights. Will that make you happy? But if it snows between now and July 4, I’m putting them back up. Just sayin’. Our politicians in Lake County couldn’t get along without the new income tax, and now they want to blow part of it on the South Shore expansion. And we wonder why we have problems. I’m a caregiver for my sister who has Down syndrome, and she has welfare and food stamps to help take care of her. Did anyone really think that Gov. Pence would spend any of those road funds in Northwest Indiana? I agree with the Quickly reader who stated that right-to-work legislation should be a federal law. It would be in the best interests of all of America, but it will never happen. Unions protect their sources of dues money. You will never get the politicians in the more corrupt states like Illinois to buy into national right to work — they would fear not getting re-elected. Similar scenario to the public pension mess Illinois is mired in at the present time. Can Mr. … ]]> Tue, 08 Apr 2014 10:46:01 -0500 <![CDATA[ Quickly, April 7 ]]> Lead story image

You should never be able to pick and choose what parts you don’t want them to be able to use. Another shooting incident with a veteran with PTSD. Keep sweeping this problem under the rug and we will continue to see more shootings. Our Supreme Court is a joke. They have now allowed even more money to influence political races. What happened to all the signs that discouraged people from throwing trash out their window? We really have a problem in Northwest Indiana. It is sad that we have so many who do not care. Balloons and bottled water are two plastic products that are completely useless. America is about the only place on Earth that still uses plastic bags at the grocery store. We need to wise up fast. Republicans and lobbyists for the greedy corporations always try to blame the American worker, unions and citizens for wage levels. America’s game, my foot. I wish when baseball batters step up to the plate to bat that their country of origin would be publicized along with their names and batting average. What are the rules for impeaching Supreme Court judges? Wonder if Paul Ryan was ever 8 years old and woke up hungry and went to bed hungry? The Tigers are a source of civic pride, stream revenue and create jobs for Detroit. (Miguel) Cabrera is the best player in baseball.
